Eyebrow Shapes: Choosing the Right Brow Shape for Your Face
Eyebrows frame the eyes like delicate brushstrokes, shaping the face's beauty and revealing the quiet elegance of the soul within. From the thin, dramatic, and arched brows of the past to the bold, natural-looking brows of the present, we can’t get enough of bold eyebrow trends.
To enhance beauty in a customized, complementary manner, eyebrows are now shaped to complement facial features rather than having a single ideal shape.
As you know, the right eyebrow shape can transform your face and boost your overall appearance. In this blog, we are going to talk about the most common eyebrow shapes and which shape is the right one for you. Ready to discover the perfect eyebrow shape for you? Read on!
Common Eyebrow Shapes
- Rounded Brows: These eyebrows have smooth, natural curves and they make the face look soft and inviting, which is great for individuals who want to have a natural look without going too far. They look good on most face shapes, but they look best on people with sharp features.
- Straight Brows: These brows are almost flat and don't have much of an arch. They look modern and simple, and they are often used to show off how pretty the eyes are. In Korea and Asia, they are very well-known in fashion.
- Soft Angled/Arched Brows: These brows have a small, natural arch that makes the face look a little higher. This style is a good mix of natural and elegant, and it looks good on many different face shapes, especially oval and rectangular ones.
- High Arched Brows: These have a strong, dramatic lift that makes the face look very striking and eye-catching. They are great for people who want a strong, unique look, but if you don't do them right, they can look too much.
- S-Shaped Brows: These brows start with a small dip and then curve smoothly like the letter "S." This style makes you look beautiful and flowing, so it's a great choice for anyone who wants something different.
- Bushy Brows: These are full, natural eyebrows that don't need a lot of care. They make you look bold and spontaneous. They are very popular for natural looks and can make your face look better without a lot of makeup.
- Bleached Brows: Eyebrows that have had their natural color taken away, making them look almost clear. This style is very popular and brave. You have to be confident to wear them because they are often worn in fashion shows or with unusual styles.
- Rhinestone Brows: Known for being unique, these brows are more likely to be seen at formal events like fashion shows. They are commonly worn to make a statement or to give off a dramatic look.
One of the most important factors that influences the choice of brow shape is your face shape.
Step 1: Identify Your Face Shape
Do you know what the first step toward beauty is? It's identifying your face shape. Knowing what face shape you have is a key step.
Before anything, you need to get a flexible measuring tape and follow these simple steps:
How to measure (simple method)
- Forehead Width:
Measure across the widest part of your forehead, typically from one brow arch to the other.
- Cheekbones Width:
Measure from the highest point of one cheekbone to the other across your face.
- Jawline Width:
You have to measure from the corner of your jaw (just below the ear) to the middle of your chin, then double that number to get your full jawline width.
- Face Length:
Measure from the center of your hairline (forehead) to the bottom of your chin.
When you're done recording these measurements, compare the proportions to determine your face shape accurately.
One of the things that makes us unique is that we all have different face shapes. Knowing the shape of your face can help you find the eyebrow style that looks best on you.
There are six main types of face shapes:
- Oval Face: It's the most attractive shape because it's balanced and harmonious between length and width, with soft, flowing lines that draw attention to the features of the face.
- Square Face: With a strong jawline and a wide forehead, it gives a strong and bold look, especially in men. It is linked to strength and confidence.
- Heart Face: This face has a wide forehead and a narrow, well-defined chin. This shape makes the eyes and cheekbones stand out, giving you a feminine and attractive look.
- Round Face: It has full cheekbones and soft lines, which give it a youthful and innocent look. In cultures that like soft features, it is thought to be very attractive.
- Diamond Face: This face shape has high cheekbones and a narrow forehead and chin. It is thought to be a unique and attractive shape because it clearly shows off the bones and gives the face a unique look.
- Rectangle Face: This face shape is a mix of oval and square faces. It has longer, stronger features that make it look good and balanced, especially if the features are in harmony.
Step 2: Brow Mapping 101 (the 3 key points)
With the many different eyebrow styles out there; not every style is right for everyone. Whatever look you're going for, it's important to tailor it to suit your face shape.
- Start:
Place the pencil along the side of your nose and hold it vertically toward the inner corner of your eye. Make sure the pencil isn’t angled above the eye area. Where the edge of the pencil meets your brow line is where your eyebrow should begin.
- Arch:
Keep the pencil on the side of your nose and angle it so that it passes through the center of your iris (while looking straight ahead). Where the pencil intersects your brow bone marks the ideal spot for the highest point of your arch.
- Tail:
Now, place the pencil on the outer edge of your nose and angle it toward the outer corner of your eye. The point it meets your brow line is where your eyebrow should end.

- Avoid: Overly straight or flat; high arched; bleached or rhinestone brows
- Oblong/Rectangle
- Aim: Straighter, flatter brows to reduce vertical length; gentle arch okay
- Best: Straight, soft angled/arched (gentle), bushy (flatter)
- Avoid: Very high arches; bleached or rhinestone brows
Additional Notes:
Bleached Brows and Rhinestone Brows are generally better suited for bold, fashion-forward looks (e.g., photoshoots or events) rather than daily wear, as they can overpower most face shapes unless carefully styled.

How to Get the Perfect Brow Shape
Your face shape is the first thing to think about when choosing the best shape for your brows. Other things to think about are the shape of your eyes, the thickness of your brows, your age, and the color of your hair.
If you don't have a lot of hair on your brows, you might want to try filling them in with a pencil or getting microblading. For thicker brows, simple grooming is usually enough. As we get older, keeping the tails of our brows lifted and avoiding super thin shapes helps keep our look fresh and youthful.
Matching your brow color to your hair and using the right grooming method, whether that’s tweezing, threading, or lamination, can really pull everything together. At the end of the day, the best brows are the ones that feel natural to you and are cared for with a little love.
